Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.Psalm 84:5 (ESV)
Psalm 84 is a beautiful reminder of God’s provision and protection. In this verse, we find out that even though we’re weak in our flesh, we can find strength in God. Not only do we find that strength, but we are also blessed because of it. Verse 7 says we will go from “strength to strength,” which means we will continue to grow in strength! And as we grow in God’s strength, this should bolster our confidence and courage to move even higher.
Think about climbing Mount Everest. It’s 29,032 feet high, which translates to about 5.5 miles. If you were climbing that, can you imagine that every milestone achievement (there are flags going up the mountain) would fill you with confidence that even though it looks insurmountable, you can go a little further–make it to that next flag.
Apply that logic to our walk with God. Matthew 6:34 (ESV) tells us, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Don’t worry about tomorrow while you’ve still got today to contend with, but when you reach the end of today, let that be the boost to your spiritual confidence that whatever tomorrow throws at you, God’s strength will carry you through it too!
God, I know that Your strength is what sustains me–whether I’m fasting or not–from day to day. I pray today that You would take my fleshly weakness and provide supernatural strength, and let that be used for Your glory. No matter what I say, no matter where I go, let Your strength be my strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.
